American rapper Lizzo (born Melissa Jefferson in 1988 in Detroit) takes an alternative path in rap and hip hop. She started her career with indie and soul/pop groups in Minneapolis and was part of the female R&B and soul trio The Chalice before starting her solo venture - successful right off the bat, like, with the release of Lizzobangers, in 2013. But it was in the record, Big GRRRL Small World of 2015, that she showed her full potential, with lyrics that praise the power of women and self-esteem. In 2016, after signing with Atlantic Records, Lizzo released the single "Good as Hell", part of the soundtrack for the film Barbershop: The Next Cut.
